Tian Gang, internationally renowned mathematician, is academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, and academician of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences.
He is currently Vice President of Peking University, Dean of School of Mathematical Sciences, Director of Beijing International Center for Mathematical Research, Deputy Director of the Academic Committee of Peking University, member of the Standing Committee of the 12th Chinese Peoples Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) and Vice Chairman of the 11th Central Committee of China Democratic League.
Tian Gang has solved a series of important problems in geometry and mathematical physics and enjoyed high reputation in the international mathematical community. Tian Gang won the 19th Alan T. Waterman Award of the National Science Foundation in 1994, the Oswald Veblen Prize of the American Mathematical Society in 1996, and was invited as plenary speaker at the 2002 International Conference of Mathematicians.
