Professor Zhou Yichun Awarded Famous Lecturer Prize
A Commending Conference was held in The Great Hall of the People by Ministry of Education on Sep. 9, honoring 100 college and university teachers with the Second National Famous Lecturer Prize, of which Professor Zhou Yichun from Xiangtan University is one. Ms. Chen Zhili, the State Commissioner, and Mr. Zhouji, the Minister of Education, presented the prize.
College and University Famous Lecturer Prize is a major project to assess teaching quality and educational engineering launched by Ministry of Education in 2003, once in three years, with 100 teachers awarded each time. Five teachers from Hunan Province won the honor this time. Screened out from teachers of different levels, those Famous Lecturers should not only impart knowledge to students while giving them moral education, but also make outstanding achievements in teaching reform; not only themselves make big in scientific research, but also help their team to make outstanding achievements in a subject considerably influential both at home and abroad.
Professor Zhou Yichun won the title of Famous Lecturer depending on prominent achievements on teaching and scientific research of his own and his team. With respect to teaching, Professor Zhou is currently being charge of one national excellent course (for undergraduates) and one provincial excellent course (for postgraduates), his Micro and Macro Mechanical Property of Materials has been established as a National Planned Teaching Material in 11th Five-year Plan, and he won the first prize of Hunan Excellent Teaching Achievements (ranked No. 1) in 2004 and the second prize of National Excellent Teaching Achievements (ranked No. 1) in 2005. With respect to scientific research, Professor Zhou has long been dedicated to the research of preparation and physical-mechanical property of membranes, published over 120 articles in famous international publications such as Appl. Phys. Letts., etc, among which more than 60 articles have been embodied in SCI and quoted 150 times by others, and published 5 monographs and proceedings such as Solid Mechanics in Materials. Besides, within the latest 5 years, Professor Zhou has taken charge of 1 major project supported by the Scientific Research Foundation of the Ministry of Education for Returned Chinese Scholars, 1 project supported by the Trans-Century Training Program Foundation for Talents from the Ministry of Education, 2 NSFC projects, 1 project supported by the National High Technology Research and Development Program for Materials, 1 project supported by the National High Technology Research and Development Program (863 Program) for Conduction, 1 project supported by the National Science Foundation for Distinguished Young Scholars and 1 project supported by the Major Program of the National Natural Science Foundation. What’s more, he won the first prize of Scientific and Technological Progress of CAS (ranked No.2) in 1996 and the second prize of Scientific and Technological Progress of Hunan (ranked No.1) in 2003.
