XTU Appraised as Teaching Demonstration Center with State Level
Recently, we received a piece of good news from the Ministry of Education that the Teaching Demonstration Centre of Material Science and Engineering of XTU was appraised by the Ministry of Education as a Teaching Demonstration Center with State Level in the material category in 2008. This is the fist teaching demonstration center of XTU to be given this honor. This year, there are a total number of 141 centers obtained the title of Teaching Demonstration Center with State Level, among which only 6 are in the category of material science.
Teaching Demonstration Center with State Level represents the highest level of teaching demonstration in the universities of China. The purpose of granting the title of Teaching Demonstration Center with State Level is to give full play to these centers so as to promote students’ practical ability and creativity, to accelerate the reform on teaching demonstration and the lab construction, and to improve teaching quality through optimizing the resources.
The Teaching Demonstration Centre of Material Science and Engineering of XTU is a lab of key discipline constructed jointly at central and local levels. At the mean time, this Centre is supported by national key discipline General and Fundamental Mechanics, Postdoctoral Research Institute of Materials Science and Engineering, two doctoral programs in the secondary discipline: Materials Physics and Chemistry and Materialogy, a key laboratory of the Ministry of Education in the field of material. In terms of teaching, this Centre has a teaching group of state level in the field of material and element, a teacher who was granted the state-level Teaching Achievement Award and two teachers who were granted the National Outstanding Youth Fund. As for teaching result, our students have solid foundations and good skills in conducting experiments. Our undergraduate students have published academic dissertation on internationally famous journal Applied Physics Letters which has an impact factor as high as 4.308. The undergraduate students have also won a first prize and a second prize of "The Challenge Cup". The admission rate to postgraduate studies is very high, and in some majors the admission rate could reach 61%. The employment rate is higher than 95%.
