Prof. Zhong Jianxin Won the National Famous Teacher Award of Higher Education
On September 8, Prof. Zhong Jianxin from School of Materials, Optoelectronics and Physics of Xiangtan University, winner of the Sixth National Famous Teacher Award of Higher Education went to Beijing to attend the commending conference of Famous Teacher Award. Liu Yandong, member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and state councilor, and Yuan Guiren, minister of the Ministry of Education graciously received Professor Zhong.
The National Famous Teacher Award of Higher Education, initiated in 2003 by the Ministry of Education, aims to consolidate the central role of personnel cultivation in the works of universities, further enhance sense of mission and responsibility of teachers, improve the quality of the talented people, and honor the excellent teachers making outstanding contributions to teaching and personnel training. Up to now, 4 professors from XTU have won the prize, namely Zhou Yichun, Wen Weiping, Ji Shuihe and Zhong Jianxin.
Teaching at our university for 26 years, Professor Zhong Jianxin takes charge of National Teaching Group, National Great Course, provincial key discipline, provincial characteristic subject, provincial innovative team, doctoral program of condensed matter physics, post-doctoral mobile research centers. He was promoted to professor as an exception in 1992 and selected into state-level candidate of “the New Century National Hundred, Thousand and Ten Thousand Talent Project” in 1996. In 2001, he won qualification for distinguished professor of Cheung Kong Scholars Programme, being offered a distinguished professor of Furong Scholar of Hunan Province in 2005, and a distinguished professor of Cheung Kong Scholars Programme in 2006, enjoying special allowance granted by the State Council. In 2009, Mr. Zhong was acclaimed as a National Model Teacher, and watched the 60th anniversary of the founding of new China at invitation as an outstanding representative of returned overseas.
Prof. Zhong Jianxin achieves satisfactory results in advocating and implementing educational reform, evidenced by winning the Second Prize of National Excellent Teachers, the First and Second Prize Teaching Award, and cultivating a group of excellent technological talents including Cheung Kung scholars. He mainly engages in the study of low-dimensional condensed matter physics and functional materials. He has hosted or participated in over 20 national and provincial projects, and published 120 odd papers, having great influence both at home and abroad. He is the director-general of the Physical Society of Hunan and “Distinguished Visiting Scientist” of Oak Ridge National Laboratory of the United States Department of Energy. Mr. Zhong once won top Micro-nano Technology Award on 25 occasions given by Research & Development (R&D). He won the Second Prize for Progress in Science and Technology of Hunan Province, the Third Prize for Progress in Science and Technology by the Ministry of Education, the First Top 10 Outstanding Young Scientists of Hunan as well as Outstanding Young and Middle-aged Experts of Hunan.
