Athlete from XTU Won Men’s Doubles in German Open Badminton Championships
The German Open Badminton Championships season entered the last day of competition on March 3. During the final round of mens doubles, sophomore Chai Biao from School of Public Administration of Xiangtan University and his partner Hong Wei beat Liu Xiaolong and Qiu Zihao and took the crown. During the new Olympic Games cycle, China aims to cultivate five or six competitive groups who can challenge world-class players. In the first year of the cycle, coaching staff of China national badminton team readjusted lineup, hence the cooperation of Chai Biao and Hong Wei.
Chai Biao and Hong Wei stood out in Germany. They defeated Japanese contestants Hayakawa Kenichi and Hirata Noriyasu in the quarterfinals, and outrivaled Korean athletes Kim Ki Jung and Kim Sa Rang in the semifinals. In the final, the new partners triumphed over Liu Xiaolong and Qiu Zihao and won an easy victory with 21-10 and 21-14. Their winning marked a good beginning for their future cooperation.
