XTU and Makerere University to Jointly Establish Confucius Institute
From March 3 to 9, the seven-member delegation from Makerere University of Ugandan headed by its president John Ddumba Ssentamu visited the Hanban (International Office of Chinese Language Council) and Xiangtan University at invitation, and sealed Agreement on Jointly Establishing Confucius Institute in Makerere University and Executive Agreement on Jointly Constructing Confucius Institute in Makerere University with them respectively. Up till now, Xiangtan University has set up Confucius Institute in Spain and Uganda, making itself the only institution of higher learning in Hunan establishing two overseas Confucius Institute.
Confucius Institute in Makerere University serves as the second overseas Confucius Institute established by our university, and it is also the first in Uganda, the 38th in Africa and the 443rd in the whole world. Its establishment not only marked the new cooperation fruit between our school and Makerere University in "China-Africa Universities 20+20 Cooperation Plan", but also drove in-depth promotion of the plan. With the signing of the executive agreement, Confucius Institute in Makerere University will be officially founded this year, and function as another cultural exchange platform of China and Uganda.
