First International Seminar on Comparative Studies of Society and Governance in India and China Held
The 1st International Seminar on Comparative Studies of Society and Governance in India and China was held in Xiangtan University on June 10, 2017. The XTU Comparative Studies Center on India-China Society and Governance was inaugurated on the same day. XTU President Zhou Yichun and Discipline Inspection Commission Secretary Dong Kangming were present. More than 70 domestic and overseas experts from India, US, and Japan universities and institutes, Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, and Tsinghua University discussed on China and India society and governance issues.
At the opening ceremony, Zhou Yichun, Dong Kangming, Indian Prof. Dasgupta, and Chinese Prof. Yan Jiahua unveiled the plate of the “XTU Comparative Studies Center on India-China Society and Governance”. The center was established by the XTU School of Public Administration and the Department of Sociology of University of Delhi in April 2015. Based on the friendly exchanges between China and India, it aims to serve the implementation of the national “Belt and Road” Initiative. It studies the political, economic, religious, social, and cultural differences between China and India, starting domestic research on India. It also trains Indian researchers to offer suggestions for policy and decision-making.
Focused on “comparative studies of India and China society and governance", experts made 20 lectures, including “Economic Development and Corruption Governance"; "Lessons from Latin America and Implications for China and India"; "Chinas ‘Belt and Road’ Initiative and Indias ‘Eastward Policy’"; "Indian Rural Society Study from the Anthropological Perspective"; and, "Responsible Government in China and India Governance". They shared latest academic achievements and strengthened academic, thinking, and humanities exchanges.
Over the past two years, XTU and University of Delhi carried out in-depth exchanges and cooperation. In April 2015, the Department of Sociology of University of Delhi and XTU School of Public Administration reached an agreement on scientific research, cooperation, and personnel training. In November 2016, the XTU delegation visited the University of Delhi, and decided further exchange and cooperation in public policy and social governance. In April 2017, the XTU Comparative Studies Center on India-China Society and Governance was set up. It studies China and India social development and reform; social and political participation, and urbanization in developing countries. It has won national financial supports for its India related research projects, and published more than 40 academic papers and monographs, such as Indian Society and Governance Research.
The seminar was hosted by XTU, and organized by XTU School of Public Administration, Department of Sociology of University of Delhi, and XTU Comparative Studies Center on India-China Society and Governance.
