Prof. Huang Yunqing Invited as Speaker of ICIAM 2019
The International Congress on Industrial and Applied Mathematics (ICIAM) Board Meeting, held in Valencia, Spain on May 20, announced the namelist of the invited speakers for the ICIAM 2019. There are three Chinese mathematicians, namely, Huang Yunqing (vice president of CSIAM, professor of Xiangtan University), Li Ruo (professor of Peking University), and Wang Xiaoping (professor of Hong Kong University of Science and Technology).
Established in 1987, the ICIAM is the most influential global organization in the field of international industrial and applied mathematics. At present, it has 21 full members and 27 associate members. The China Industrial and Applied Mathematics Society (CIAMS) is a full member.
The ICIAM, held every four years, is the highest-level and largest international academic event of applied mathematics. It plays a very important role in the development of international industry and applied mathematics. ICIAM 2019 will be held in Valencia, Spain, between July 15 and 19, 2019.
Prof. Huang obtained his bachelor’s degree and master’s degree in Xiangtan University in 1982 and 1984 respectively, and received his doctor’s degree in Academy of Mathematics and Systems Science (AMSS), Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) in 1987. Currently, he serves as secretary of the CPC Xiangtan University Committee, chief of State Key Discipline of Computational Mathematics, Xiangtan University, vice chairman of the Chinese Congress on Industrial and Applied Mathematics, deputy director of the Mathematics Committee of the Teaching Advisory Board under the Ministry of Education, and chairman of the Hunan Mathematical Society. He has been engaged in the research of numerical methods for differential equations, and software, and contributed greatly to international computational mathematics development. He has taken charge of major projects supported by the China National Funds for Distinguished Young Scholars, and the National Natural Science Foundation of China. He has published two monographs, one textbook for the 11th Five-Year Plan (2006- 2010) and the 12th Five-Year Plan (2011 – 2015) periods, and more than 100 papers on international first-class journals like SIAMJ.Numer.Anal, and Math.Comput. He has won many awards, including the first prize of the National Award for Natural Sciences by the Ministry of Education, the first prize of Hunan Provincial Award for Natural Sciences, Feng Kang Prize in Scientific Computing, and the second prize of Outstanding Teaching Achievements of China. He was selected one of the first batch of candidates for the National Ten-Thousand Talents Program.
