"Development and Industrialization of Ultra-large Area SDD" Project Launched
The launching meeting of the project for "Development and Industrialization of Ultra-large Area Silicon Drift Detector (SDD)" was held in Wuhan Haiwang Technologies Co., Ltd. on October 20, 2017. Supported by the national key research & development (R&D) plan, it is a key project for the development of major scientific instruments and equipment. It is presided over by Li Zheng, professor of Xiangtan University included in the national "Thousand Talents Plan".
The project was officially approved in July 2017, led by Wuhan Haiwang Technology Co., Ltd. Other partners include Xiangtan University, Beijing Institute of Control Engineering, the 44th Research Institute of China Electronics Technology Group Corporation (CETC44), and Yantai Dongfang Analytical Instruments Co., Ltd. More than 30 people attended the meeting, including leaders and experts from the Ministry of Science and Technology, and the Science and Technology Department of Hubei Province, as well as key members of the project. The meeting was chaired by Prof. Liu Sheng, an expert from the Ministry of Science and Technology.
Experts from the Ministry of Science and Technology put forward specific requirements for the national instruments special management plan, management processes, undertakers, supervision, credit management, and preparation of the project implementation plan. XTU Prof. Li Zheng was appointed as the expert for the project at the meeting and conferred the letter of appointment on site.

Prof. Li Zheng and Prof. Tang Minghua briefed on the project overall situation, implementation plan, research background and content, overall plan, key technologies, technical indicators, project scheduling, and medium-term goals. The experts hoped, via national key R & D plan implementation, the project can be carried out smoothly and the breakthroughs made in relevant technological fields soon. Its comprehensive popularization and application is to meet the major national strategic needs such as space exploration, nuclear radiation protection monitoring, and high-energy physics research.
