Huang Yunqing Attends 2017 Joint Conference of Confucius Institutes in Africa
The 2017 Joint Conference of Confucius Institutes in Africa was convened in Lusaka, Zambia from May 18 to 19, 2017. Headed by Secretary of the CPC Xiangtan University (XTU) Committee Huang Yunqing, a delegation consisting of heads of the International Exchange Center (School) and dean of Confucius Institute at Makerere University, Uganda attended.
More than 240 participants were present at the conference, including presidents and deans from 48 Confucius Institutes in 35 African countries, as well as representatives from 20 Chinese and African enterprises and institutions. Chinese Ambassador to Zambia Yang Youming, Minister of General Education of Zambia Dennis Wanchinga, Deputy Permanent Secretary of Ministry of Higher Education of Zambia Peggy Chirwa, and, Deputy Director General of Confucius Institute Headquarters and Deputy Director of Hanban (Office of Chinese Language Council International) Xia Jianhui attended the opening ceremony and delivered speeches.
The two-day conference includes a theme plenary session and three parallel sessions. Such topics as local teacher training, vocational and technical training and cooperation among Chinese-funded enterprises were discussed. As a highlight of cultural exchange between China and foreign countries, the Confucius Institutes in Africa outperformed other Confucius Institutes around the world in teaching development. Under the Belt and Road Initiative, the Confucius Institutes in Africa have ushered in a new historical period and will better promote educational, cultural and economic exchanges between China and Africa.
During the meeting, Huang Yunqing reported to heads of Confucius Institute Headquarters about the achievements made by the Confucius Institute at Makerere University and exchanged views with other universities on the development of Confucius Institutes.
